LESSONS

Ichinawa-kai is a shibari classroom established and run by Hajime Kinoko since 2004.

We propose group lessons, private lessons and rope salons for people interested in kinbaku. Please feel free to contact and join us.

* Like car driving, kinbaku involves risks which can never be reduced to zero. In order to reduce these risks as much as possible, Ichinawa-kai puts safety first and continuously seeks improvement. Please participate in the classroom and private lessons while keeping that in mind.

The Private Lessons of the hajimekinoko.

The private lessons are taught face to face with Hajime Kinoko and can be scheduled at any time.

Safety is our priority and we answer our students need.

- Persons who want to experience the world of kinbaku.
- Persons who want to improve their technique.
- Persons willing to study safe suspension.
- Persons who have already their own style of shibari but want to correct their practice.
- Persons who aim at performances and public shows.
- Persons practicing shibari for arts.
- Dominatrix using shibari for their sessions.
- Persons interested in classic Japanese shibari.
Additionally, in the advanced level, we will teach suspended transitions (switching between various suspensions poses in the air) and some other secret tips.

Unlike group lessons, Hajime Kinoko teaches private lessons face to face, therefore his attention is continuous, and so you are much less likely to develop bad habits. As a result, your shibari technique will be smoother and ties more beautiful, and you will progress at a much faster pace.

For those who want to learn from the basics, there is a "Beginner/Intermediate Curriculum" ranging from grade 10 to grade 1, and we will teach you in accordance with that curriculum.

The Online Private Lessons of the hajimekinoko.

Rope First Setup Treatment Workshop

This is a workshop that teaches the rope tanning method practiced by Hajime Kinoko.
By taking this course, you will learn how to create ropes that are less prone to fraying, have a smooth surface, and feel incredibly pleasant when in contact with the model's skin.

Do you know what type of oil to use and how much is appropriate?
Are you familiar with an efficient method for the "suri-nameshi" technique that minimizes fraying without damaging the rope's surface?
Are you accidentally damaging the rope during the kebayaki (burning the fuzz) process?
In the beginning, rope tanning is almost certain to fail without guidance from an experienced person.
Additionally, this workshop will also teach you how to create a new rope end using the Matthew Walker knot.

In this workshop, you can learn the secret rope tanning techniques that Hajime Kinoko has developed through 26 years of shibari experience.
The workshop is taught by an official instructor who holds the Ichinawa-Kai teaching license, having fully mastered this technique directly from Hajime Kinoko. However, if you wish, you can also receive direct instruction from Hajime Kinoko himself.

Group classes in various locations where you can learn the Ichinawakai beginner and intermediate curriculum

For Those Who Want to Become Instructors

By passing the designated curriculum taught in group rope classes or private lessons, you can become an official instructor recognized by Hajime Kinoko.
There are people teaching my rope techniques without being officially certified. They may indeed have learned from me, but I cannot guarantee that non-certified instructors are teaching correctly.

Regarding the official curriculum, it is divided into ranks from 10th Grade through Special 1st Grade and Special Grade. Students must begin from 10th Grade.
Each grade has an examination. After completing Special 1st Grade and passing the graduation examination, a graduation certificate will be awarded.

If Hajime Kinoko determines that you are suited to teaching and personally invites you, you may participate as an instructor in the rope classes (with honorarium and other benefits).
After serving as an instructor 10 times or more, you can obtain a Second-Class Instructor License, which allows you to teach up to the 3rd Grade curriculum.
For foreign residents overseas and people living more than 100 km away within Japan, participating as an instructor in at least one class is sufficient to obtain the Second-Class Instructor License.

After that, through private lessons, if you complete the required Special Grade training curriculum (as little as 32 hours for fast learners), pass the examination, and are recognized as having the appropriate character to be an instructor, you can obtain a Junior First-Class Instructor License, which allows you to teach rope techniques from 10th Grade through 1st Grade.
Furthermore, after obtaining the Junior First-Class License, if you complete additional required Special Grade training through private lessons (as little as 40 hours for fast learners), pass the examination, and are judged to possess the appropriate character as an instructor, you can obtain a First-Class Instructor License, which allows you to teach all rope techniques learned from Hajime Kinoko. Those who progress more slowly may require over 60 hours of training.
For overseas students, the 60 hours of lessons can be completed either by inviting Hajime Kinoko to your country or by coming to Tokyo to take lessons.

For further details, please contact us through the inquiry form.

Please note: The Special Grade training required for the Junior First-Class and First-Class licenses is estimated at 32 and 40 hours respectively for fast learners, but this varies by individual. Some people have taken up to twice as long.

There are three types of instructor licenses as follows:

  • Second-Class License: Allows the holder to teach content up to 3rd Grade.
  • Requirements: Complete the curriculum through Special 1st Grade, pass the graduation examination, be recognized by Kinoko as suitable to teach, and accumulate the required teaching experience afterward.

  • Junior First-Class License: Allows the holder to teach content up to 1st Grade.
  • Requirements: Hold a Second-Class License, complete the required amount of post-curriculum Special Grade training (as little as 32 hours for fast learners), and pass an examination (demonstrating two learned techniques).

  • First-Class License: Allows the holder to teach everything learned from Hajime Kinoko.
  • Requirements: After obtaining the Junior First-Class License, complete additional required Special Grade training (as little as 40 hours for fast learners) and pass an examination (demonstrating one learned technique and eight variation techniques).

Please note: The estimated training times of 32 and 40 hours for the Junior First-Class and First-Class licenses are only guidelines and vary by individual ability. Some people have required up to twice as much time.
*Only the Licensor can issue an instructor's license, and the person who holds the license cannot issue it to their students.
*As the course content of the Ichinawa curriculum is updated and improved every year, the instructor's license must be renewed once every two years.
